Rates Refund Application


About this Form

A refund may be requested from Council if there is a credit balance on the rates account as the result of a duplicated payment or a payment using an incorrect Rates Account Number.

A refund may not be requested if a payment is under investigation or in dispute with the applicant’s bank or financial institution. If a payment intended for another property has been made, a written request is required via email to council@cbcity.nsw.gov.au with specific transaction details advising the correct Rates Account Number for payment allocation.

NOTES TO RATEPAYER
  • All future correspondence from Council will be sent to the postal address provided on this form.

  • The application is subject to Council’s approval and dependant on the financial institution, may take up to 21 business days for the refund to be received.

  • A valid email address must be provided for Council to issue a refund confirmation.

  • BPAY and credit card payments approved for refund will be returned to the bank account or credit card used to make the payment. All other payment methods will be refunded via EFT and processed on Council’s next scheduled payment run after approval.

CONDITIONS OF AGREEMENT

  • Any applicable merchant fees charged at the time of transaction will not be refunded.

  • Payments made for the purpose of a property settlement must be accompanied by a letter of instruction from the solicitor/conveyancer with evidence of payment.

  • Rates refund requests will only be accepted from the owner or a third party with previously specified authority to act on the owner’s behalf (i.e. Managing Agent or Settlement Agent).

  • A refund will not be processed if the required documentation is not submitted.
