My Positivity Playlist - Youth Art Comp 

Creating art is a great way to boost your mood and look after your mental health – so why not turn the things that bring you joy into a masterpiece? If you're aged 12-18 living or studying in the Canterbury-Bankstown, this is your chance to get creative and share what helps you feel calm, confident or happy – your personal positivity playlist. Whether it’s painting, sculpture or digital art, we want to see it!

Art Exhibition Night Announcement of winners:
Wednesday 27 Oct, 5.30-7.30pm with announcements held at 6.30pm

1st place: $300 voucher

Category 2 - Digital art including photography
$50 vouchers, given away to 10 winners.

People's choice award

$100 voucher chosen by the participants at the Art Exhibition Night (votes close 6.15pm)


Terms and Conditions

The competition is open to all young people aged 12-18 years of age  as of the closing date Friday 17 Oct  who live, work or attend school in the Canterbury-Bankstown.  

All submitted works must address the theme:  
My Positivity Playlist, highlighting what brings you joy, helps you feel calm or boosts your confidence.  

Entry requirements  

  • Artists can enter one submission per category   

  • Category 1: 2D & 3D art works   

  • Category 2: Digital Art including photography  

  • An artist statement as to how their artwork relates to the theme must be submitted with each entry. The word limit is 200 words   

  • Entries close on Friday 17 Oct at 5.30pm   

  • Entry is free   

  • Submitted works must be the artist's original creation, completed in 2025 and must not infringe on any existing copyrights   

  • You must be aged 12-18 years and either live, work or study in the Canterbury-Bankstown 

  • All submissions must not include any imagery or language that is offensive, derogatory or incites hatred or discrimination against any individuals or groups   

  • Canterbury-Bankstown Council reserves the right to withdraw an entry at its discretion  

Category 1: 2D & 3D artworks  

2D artworks 

  • Artwork can be a painting, drawing, sculpture, photograph or other digital still artwork   

  • Artworks must not exceed A3 size (42cm x 29.7cm), including frames and other mounting devices   

3D artworks 

  • Must not exceed a total volume of a half cubic metre   

  • Must be less than 10kgs in weight  

  • Must be free standing, sturdy and easily handled by a maximum of 2 people   

  • Artworks submitted must be the work of the entrant 

 

Category 2: Digital artwork including photography 

  • Entries can be submitted digitally on the competition webpage or submitted in a physical form mounted in a frame  

  • Entries submitted digitally must be larger than 2MB but not exceed 10MB   

  • Physically submitted entries must not exceed A3 size (42cm x 29.7cm), including frames and other mounting devices   

  • Images may be single-capture or composite. There are no restrictions on the use of post-production, however any post-production and editing must be the work of the entrant  

Copyright 

Artists grant Canterbury-Bankstown Council the right to reproduce their work in part or in full for archival and/or promotional purposes.

The artist will be properly acknowledged in such material.

How to submit your entry 

A photo or digital file of your artwork must be submitted with your entry using the entry form linked below.  .  

Files uploaded with your application must:   

  • Follow the naming convention: ‘fullname_title_category'   

  • Be larger than 2MB but not exceed 10MB  

  • Include an artist statement as to how your artwork relates to the theme of My Positivity Playlist. The word limit is 200 words   

Delivery of physical artworks  

Entries for physical artworks must also be submitted using the entry form linked below.  

Physical artworks must be delivered to:   

  • Belmore Youth Resource Centre, 3/38-40 Redman Parade, Belmore   

  • Between 3-5.30pm, Wednesday 15 Oct - Friday 17 Oct 

Clearly identify your delivery with entrant’s name, email and telephone number. Also include the category entered into with any specific display requirements  

Be prepared to unwrap your artwork on arrival and take packing materials home with you  

At the close of the exhibition, you must bring your own packing materials, wrap and remove any artwork.  

Judging 

A panel of judges, assembled by Canterbury-Bankstown Council, will assess the submitted entries and artist statements to determine the winners of all prizes  

The selection is based on artistic merit and the artist's response to the theme of the competition  

The judges' decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the winners  

Collection of artworks  

All works must be collected by the entrant (or their representative) by a specified date. Uncollected works may be disposed of at the discretion of Canterbury-Bankstown Council, unless prior arrangement is made by the entrant to collect their entry.

Canterbury-Bankstown Council receives funding from the Department of Communities and Justice to run programs for children and young people. As part of this funding, we are required to ask the following questions for data collection.

Once you have answered all of this, you will be given a BYRC membership number - which will allow you to register for future programs without having to complete the below details.
